Four Jefferson Countians, including a 4-year-old, were hurt in a four-vehicle accident Tuesday evening (Aug. 9) on Hwy. A west of Glen Oaks Drive in the Festus area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
At 4:45 p.m., Chad T. Woods, 44, of Hillsboro was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition east on Hwy. A, and the SUV struck the rear of an eastbound 2009 Acura TSX that was stopped behind two other eastbound cars, the report said.
The impact of that collision caused the TSX to strike the rear of a 2014 Nissan Versa, which then struck the rear of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, which had stopped to make a left turn, according to the report.
No injuries were reported for Woods. The drivers of the three cars, however, were hurt.
Joseph J. Schlude, 42, of Festus, who was driving the Elantra, sustained minor injuries. Tara R. Meyer, 42, of De Soto, who was driving the Versa, was moderately hurt, and Brittnee G. Coleman, 25, of Hillsboro, who was driving the TSX, sustained minor injuries. In addition, a passenger in the TSX, Adelynn B. Angel, 4, of Hillsboro, sustained minor injuries, the report said.
Schlude and Meyer were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur. They were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said today (Aug. 11).
Coleman and Angel were taken by private conveyance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said today.
All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts or using safety devices, the patrol reported.
The SUV was extensively damaged, and the TSX was totaled. The Versa was extensively damaged and the Elantra sustained moderate damage, the report said.
