Bethany C. Day, 21, of Festus died Wednesday evening (July 18) in a one-vehicle crash on I-55 at the 162.8 mile marker in Ste. Genevieve County.
The driver, a 22-year-old Festus man, was arrested for suspicion of DWI and other alleged offenses, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:06 p.m., the Festus man was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 south on the interstate, and the pickup ran off the left side of the road before the driver “overcorrected,” which caused the pickup to run off the right side of the road, where it struck a rock bluff and overturned, the report said.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in fair condition today (July 19), a hospital spokeswoman said.
Day was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:22 p.m. by Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance personnel, the patrol reported.
Neither Day nor the man was wearing a seat belt, the report said.
The Ford 150 was totaled, according to the report.
The patrol arrested the man at the hospital for alleged driving while intoxicated involving the death of another, careless and imprudent driving involving an accident and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report said.
