A Festus man and a Park Hills man were injured Monday afternoon (Aug. 16) in a three-vehicle accident at Hwy. 61 and Manderley Court south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 1:25 p.m., Robert J. Koester, 51, of Festus was driving a 1994 Ford F150 south on the highway and while approaching Manderley Court, turned in front of a 2005 Ford F150 headed north on the highway and crashed head-on into the newer truck. The collision pushed back the older pickup, and the rear of it struck the front of a 2016 Honda Civic headed south on the highway, the report said.
Darrell L. Boyer, 65, of Park Hills was driving the 2005 pickup, and a 17-year-old Festus girl was driving the Civic.
No injuries were reported for the teenager, but Koester was seriously injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and Boyer was moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Both men were treated and released, a Mercy spokesman said.
It’s unknown if Koester was wearing a seat belt, but Boyer and the teen were wearing them, the report said.
The two pickups were totaled, and the Civic was moderately damaged, the report said.
The highway patrol did not release the teen’s name because she is a juvenile.
