A Festus man and a Mineral Point man were injured late Friday afternoon, Jan. 20, in a two-car accident at Hwy. 67 and Flucom Road southeast of De Soto, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 4:45 p.m., Richard L. Gilchrist, 18, of Festus was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima north on the highway and while trying to turn left onto Flucom Road, pulled into the path of a 2008 Grand Prix driven by Kaleena M. Torkey, 30, of Mineral Point, who was headed south on the highway. The front of the Grand Prix struck the right side of the Maxima, the report said.

No injuries were reported for Kaleena Torkey, but Gilchrist and a passenger in the Grand Prix – Craig. A. Torkey, 34, of Mineral Point – were moderately injured and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, according to the report.

Gilchrist was not wearing a seat belt, but the Torkeys were wearing them, the patrol reported.

Both cars were extensively damaged, the report said.
