Alan Turner, 69, of Festus is in critical condition today (Sept. 25) after he was struck by an SUV on YMCA Drive, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

Turner was hit about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday by a 2019 Toyota RAV4, which was driven by a 23-year-old Herculaneum woman. Lewis said there was a passenger in the SUV, and the two remained on the scene after the man was struck.

The driver told police she didn’t see Turner and stopped when she and the passenger heard a thump. When they saw the had SUV hit a person, they called 911 and remained at the scene, Lewis said.

He said the incident appears to have been an accident, but it is still under investigation.

Turner was seriously injured and transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City before being airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, Lewis said.
