Trenton P. Childress, 17, of Festus was injured in a traffic accident Monday morning (Dec. 17) when the SUV he was driving was hit from behind, pushed into oncoming traffic and struck by a pickup. The accident happened at 7:39 a.m. on Hwy. A at Harrison Lake Road west of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Childress was stopped in a 2009 Ford Escape on eastbound Hwy. A waiting for other vehicles to turn when Charlie M. Brown, 34, of Hillsboro, who was driving an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, failed to stop. The Cobalt struck the back end of the Escape, pushing it into the highway’s westbound lane, and the Escape was struck by a westbound 2003 Ford F-150 driven by Kenny P. Rainey, 53, of Fenton, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Brown or Rainey.
Childress was moderately injured and transported by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South, formerly St. Anthony’s Medical Center, in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in good condition Tuesday morning (Dec. 18), a hospital spokesman said.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The three vehicles were totaled, the report said.
