A 63-year-old Fenton woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon (Jan. 21) at Hwy. 30 and Valley Dell Drive near Murphy in unincorporated Fenton. The accident left her and a man seriously injured, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 1:43 p.m., the woman was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna west on the highway and reportedly ran a red light at the intersection with Valley Dell Drive, and the front of the minivan struck the side of a 2014 Subaru Forester driven by James D. Smith, 25, of Fenton, who was headed south on Valley Dell, the report said.

Both the woman and the man were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

The woman was not wearing a seat belt, and the man was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The two vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the woman at 3:08 p.m. at the hospital.

Her name will not be published unless charges are filed against her, and as of this morning (Jan. 22), none had been filed.
