Craig Smith, 51, of Fenton was seriously injured late Wednesday afternoon (March 14) when he allegedly ran a red light and struck a pickup in the intersection of Hwy. 30 and Valley Dell Drive in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Just after 4 p.m., Smith was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am east on Hwy. 30 and when he got to the intersection with Valley Dell Drive, he allegedly drove through a steady red light, and the front of the car struck the front left side of the pickup that was headed north on Valley Dell Drive and was passing through the intersection on a green light, the report said.

Kory K. Belcher, 32, of High Ridge was driving the pickup, a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. No injuries were reported for him.

Smith was transported by North Jefferson County Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in satisfactory condition this afternoon (March 15), a hospital spokesman said.

Neither Smith nor Belcher was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The Grand Am was totaled, and the Silverado was extensively damaged, the report said.
