Eureka Fire Protection District crews recently rescued two men and a dog from an overturned tractor-trailer on westbound I-44 west of Antire Road. It was snowing at the time, authorities reported.
The accident occurred Jan. 15, when Michael L. Brenner, 26, of Anderson, Texas, reportedly was driving a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia too fast for the conditions. He attempted to slow down the tractor-trailer and ran off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol report.
William Stamberger, public information officer for the Eureka Fire, said crews were dispatched to the scene at 6:05 a.m., and when firefighters arrived at 6:17 a.m., they found the passenger, Jaiden Jackson, 22, of Columbia, S.C., sitting on top of the overturned trailer.
He was transported to Mercy South by Fenton Fire with minor injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
Stamberger said the windshield had to be cut to get to the Brenner.
He was wearing a seat belt and had moderate injuries. He was transported by Eureka Fire to Mercy South, according to the highway patrol.
A Mercy spokesman said both men were treated and released.
Stamberger said a dog was also pulled from the trailer and was kept inside a highway patrol officer’s car until animal control arrived at the scene.
The big rig was hauling Rubbermaid products, and the trailer was extensively damaged, authorities reported.
All westbound lanes were shut down until 7:44 a.m. when a few of the lanes reopened. All lanes reopened by 10:49 a.m. when crews left the scene, Stamberger said.
