A 59-year-old Dittmer man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon, April 24, at Hwy. 30 and Dittmer Catawissa Road in Dittmer. The man was seriously injured in the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 11:13 p.m., the man was driving west in a 2006 Chevrolet HHR when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, the report said.
He was taken by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon, April 26, a hospital spokesman said.
The patrol arrested the man for the alleged DWI at 12:57 a.m. Monday, April 25, at the hospital.
He was wearing a seat belt and the HHR was totaled, the patrol reported.
The man’s name will not be published unless charges are filed against him, and as of this afternoon, April 27, none had been filed.
