A 35-year-old De Soto woman and a 19-year-old Hillsboro woman were hurt late Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 29) in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 67 at Papin Road southeast of De Soto, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 4:23 p.m., Jessica M. Kelly, 35, of De Soto, driving a 2001 Saturn SL2, crossed northbound Hwy. 67, made a U-turn on the highway and headed west. In the meantime, Andrew J. Henning, 24, of Bonne Terre, in a northbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, applied his brakes and steered to the left in an effort to avoid striking the Saturn. However, the Silverado began skidding, and the front end of it struck the left side of the Saturn, the report said.
After the collision, the Saturn began skidding, and the Silverado crossed southbound Hwy. 67. Then, the Saturn began spinning before running off the road and into the center median where it came to rest after the rear left corner of the Saturn struck a highway sign. The Silverado came to rest blocking the right turn lane of southbound 67, according to the report.
No injuries were reported for Henning. However, Kelly was moderately hurt, and a passenger in the Saturn – Sarah B. Galvin, 19, of Hillsboro – had minor injuries.
Both Kelly and Galvin were taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City.
Everyone involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Saturn was extensively damaged, and the Silverado was moderately damaged, the report said.
