A 14-year-old De Soto boy was seriously injured Monday evening, March 10, when he was riding a bicycle near Boyd and North Third streets and ran into a vehicle. The boy was in stable condition at St. Louis Children’s Hospital early this morning, March 11, De Soto Police Capt. Jeffery Wynn said.

He said the Police Department got a call about the accident around 8 p.m. and when officers arrived, De Soto firefighters were already on the scene treating the boy who was unconscious with labored breathing.

Wynn said the bicyclist was riding south on North Third Street and ran into the driver-side of an eastbound Honda Element driven by a 58-year-old De Soto-area man. Wynn said he did not know if the boy was wearing a helmet.

Since the boy had no identification and was unconscious, Wynn said, police began trying to find out who his parents were and locate them. After midnight, the child’s mother called looking for her son, and an officer accompanied her to Children’s Hospital.
