A De Soto man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a Jeep Saturday afternoon (Aug. 28) on Hwy. 110 and Athena School Road near Olympian Village.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Everett Govro, 54, of De Soto, was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee north on Athena School Road at 3:32 p.m. and had stopped for the stop sign at Hwy. 110. He then entered the intersection and, according to the report, failed to yield for a 2002 Harley Davidson FXDL, which was headed west on Hwy. 110 and was ridden by Michael Politte, 55, of De Soto. The front of the motorcycle ran into the front right of the Jeep, and both vehicles began spinning clockwise and went off the west side of the road.

Politte was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:40 p.m. by paramedics from the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District, the report said.

The report made no mention of an injury to Govro.

Govro was not wearing a seat belt, the report said. The motorcycle was totaled and the Jeep had extensive damage, according to the report.
