A De Soto man and woman were injured Tuesday evening (March 9) in a two-vehicle accident in the 19000 block of Hwy. 21 north of Old Mines in Washington County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 6:40 p.m., Steven J. Richards, 50, of De Soto was driving a 2006 Ford F150 north on the highway, and the front of the pickup struck the rear of a northbound 1999 Ford F350 that was ahead and had stopped to turn left into a private drive, the report said.

Gordon L. Thornton, 69, of De Soto was driving the F350 pickup. No injures were reported for him.

However, Richards was moderately injured, and a passenger in the F150 – Lucinda G. Richards, 46, of De Soto – had minor injuries.

They both were taken by Washington County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where Steven Richards was listed in good condition this afternoon (March 10) and Lucinda Richards was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

Neither one of the Richards was wearing a seat belt, and Thornton was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The F150 was totaled, and the F350 was moderately damaged, the report said.
