Edward R. Elkins, 35, of Cadet was hurt Monday afternoon (April 11) in a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 67 just south of Oakvale Road in the De Soto area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
At 12:10 p.m., Elkins was headed south in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer and suffered a medical condition before the SUV ran off the left side of the road, struck the median cables, overturned and came to rest in the northbound lanes, the report said.
Elkins sustained moderate injuries and was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where he was listed in serious condition this morning (April 12), hospital spokesman John Winkelman said.
It is not known whether Elkins was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The SUV was extensively damaged, the report said.
