A Byrnes Mill woman and a Sullivan man were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning, June 5, on I-44 east of Bowles Ave., the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 8:01 a.m., Bobby R. Morton, 26, of Byrnes Mill was driving an eastbound 2011 Toyota Prius when he reportedly made an unsafe lane change, striking the rear of a 2017 Chevrolet Express driven east by Johnathan A. Martin, 19, of Sullivan. The Chevrolet was pushed forward and struck the rear of an eastbound 2019 Ford Expedition driven by Shane D. Gilliam, 41, of Cuba, the report said.

A passenger in the Toyota, Bella M. Portwood, 21, of Brynes Mill was moderately injured and taken by Fenton Fire Protection District to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, the report said. Martin had minor injuries and was taken by Valley Park Fire Protection District to SSM St. Clare Hospital in Fenton.

Portwood was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

According to the report, Martin and Gilliam were wearing seat belts and Morton and Portwood were not.

The Toyota was moderately damaged, and the Chevrolet and the Ford had minor damage, the report said.
