A 1-year-old Arnold boy and a 16-year-old St. Louis girl were injured Sunday night (Feb. 6) in a two-vehicle accident on I-55 south of Meramec Bottom Road in south St. Louis County just north of Arnold, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 10:10 p.m., Salinas Perez, 21, of Arnold was in a 2007 Honda Pilot parked on the right shoulder of northbound I-55 before pulling onto the interstate in front of a northbound 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, and the front right side of the Silverado struck the rear left side of the Pilot, the report said.

Matthew M. Fleming, 18, of St. Louis was driving the Silverado.

No injuries were reported for Perez or Fleming. However, the 1-year-old, who was a passenger in the Pilot, had minor injuries, and the 16-year-old, who was a passenger in the Silverado, was moderately injured, the report said.

No information was available about the passengers’ conditions.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and the child was using a safety device. The 16-year-old, though, was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The two vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol did not release the names of the 1-year-old or the 16-year-old because they are juveniles.
