A 28-year-old High Ridge man was arrested in Arnold for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a pickup he was driving ran off the road, went through a home’s front lawn and smashed into a nearby utility pole. The man refused treatment following the accident, Arnold Police reported.

A witness told police that at about 3 p.m. July 4, the man was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 east on Tenbrook Road and veered into the westbound lane before overcorrecting to return to the proper lane. When the pickup swerved into the eastbound lane, it hit a curb, ran off the road and rolled through the lawn outside a home in the 2300 block of Tenbrook Road before striking a large flower bed near the intersection of Tenbrook Road and Dornseif Drive, the report said.

After hitting the flower bed, the pickup went airborne and landed on Dornseif Drive. The truck continued to roll until it struck a utility pole that broke and fell over onto the pickup, Arnold Police reported.

Officers allegedly smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, and after he allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests, they arrested him. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was released to a sober driver and given a summons to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for DWI, Maj. Clinton Wooldridge said.

The cost to repair the flower bed and lawn was estimated at about $1,000, and the damage to the utility pole was estimated at about $10,000, Wooldridge said.

He said the pickup was significantly damaged, and it was not known if the driver was wearing a seat belt.
