An Arnold man and a St. Louis man were seriously injured Monday (Nov. 29) in a four-vehicle accident on I-55 south of I-270 in St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 1:05 p.m., Lawrence W. Meyers, 77, of St. Louis was driving a 2020 Ford Escape north on I-55 and reportedly failed to notice traffic stopping ahead and struck the rear of a northbound 2004 Honda Accord driven by Jeremy M. Rusert, 33, of Arnold. That collision caused the Accord to strike the rear of a northbound 2013 Toyota Highlander, which, in turn, struck the rear of a northbound 2011 Ford F350 pickup, the report said.
Linda R. Mueller, 56, of Fenton was driving the Highlander, and Douglas P. Mueller, 56, of Fenton was driving the pickup. No injuries were reported for either of them.
However, both Meyers and Rusert were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where Meyers was listed in satisfactory condition this afternoon (Nov. 30) and Rusert was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
All the drivers were wearing sear belts, the patrol reported.
The Escape and Accord were totaled, the Highlander was extensively damaged, and the pickup had minor damage.
