Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

A 75-year-old Arnold died after he was found in a car that had crashed into a concrete post at the entrance gate to Pomme Creek Park, 1 Golfview Drive, in Arnold. The man appeared to have suffered a medical emergency before the accident, Arnold Police reported.

The man’s name is not being released until a medical examination is completed to determine the cause of his death, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.

Arnold Police got a call about the accident at approximately 5:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5. By the time the officer arrived, Rock Township Ambulance personnel had removed the man from the driver’s seat of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra and were performing life-saving measures, the report said.

Rock Township personnel declared the man dead at 5:43 p.m., according to the report.

It appeared the man had been driving toward the park’s entrance when the car veered to the right and the right front corner of it hit the concrete pole. The car and pole were damaged, but an estimate for the damage was not available, Arnold Police reported.

No one else was in the car with the man, and it is not known if he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Christopher said.
