A 20-year-old Arnold man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after losing a tire on I-55, hitting two road signs and attempting to flee by scaling a fence and injuring himself, Arnold Police reported.
Police located the man at 9:49 p.m. April 7 on the West Outer Road near Arlene Drive in Arnold. His head was bleeding and blood was in his eyes, and he was transported to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.
The man was driving a 2006 Acura south on I-55 when he spun out of control near the Hwy. 141 exit, hitting two Missouri Department of Transportation signs. The signs are valued at $3,500, according to the report.
The front driver-side tire fell off the Acura and rolled down the interstate, hitting a 2016 Ford Mustang driven by a 19-year-old St. Louis man. No injury was reported for the driver of the Mustang, and he was able to drive his car away from the scene, the report said.
The driver of the Acura reportedly got out of his car, knocked on the Mustang’s window and then fled the area by scaling the fence at the Hwy. 141 exit ramp. He hurt himself in the 30-foot drop, according to the report.
A 21-year-old Imperial woman was a passenger in the Acura, and there were no injuries reported for her. She was allowed to leave the scene, the report said.
An officer caught up with the Arnold man, and after he was taken to the hospital, where he refused to provide a blood sample, he was arrested. He had a record of a previous arrest, according to the report.
Arnold Police will seek charges for DWI and leaving the scene of an accident against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.
