Two flu-related deaths and one COVID-related death were reported to the Jefferson County Health Department the week of Feb. 16. The report was released on Feb. 27.

That means a total of 10 flu deaths and 14 COVID deaths have been reported in the county since the respiratory season began Sept. 29, according to the Health Department.

During the week of Feb. 16, the Health Department received reports of 241 flu cases and 67 COVID cases in Jefferson County.

Since the respiratory season began, 2,784 flu cases and 2,766 COVID cases have been reported in the county.

Flu cases peaked during the week of Feb. 2 with 719 cases while COVID cases peaked the week of Dec. 22 with 233 cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get an annual influenza (flu) vaccine. Health officials also recommend people get the COVID vaccine.
