The Jefferson County Health Department has reported two more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 20 since the respiratory season began on Sept. 29. The latest deaths were listed on the Health Department’s report for the week of April 6. That report was released on Wednesday, April 16.

So far this respiratory season, which ends May 17, the county has seen 3,102 COVID cases reported to the Health Department. The season peaked the week of Dec. 22, with 233 cases.

In addition, 14 flu-related deaths were reported this respiratory season with no additional deaths reported during the week of April 6.

There have been 4,074 flu cases reported to the Health Department this respiratory season. About 94 percent of the cases have been type A. The season peaked at 733 cases the week of Feb. 2.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get an annual influenza (flu) vaccine. Health officials also recommend people get the COVID vaccine.
