During the week of Nov. 16, the Jefferson County Health Department inspected 49 food establishments. Scores ranged from 60 to 100.
Some were routine inspections while others were reinspections where scores are not assigned. All inspections are unannounced visits.
Facilities considered low priority are not assigned a score. A low priority facility does not prepare food.
According to the Jefferson County Health Department, facilities start with a score of 100, and points are reduced based on observed violations:
■ Six points are deducted for priority violations that directly contribute to foodborne illness risk.
■ Three points are deducted for priority foundation violations that indirectly contribute to foodborne illness risk or enable priority violations.
■ One point for core violations related to general sanitation and good retail practices.
■ Two points for repeat violations of any type.
Dan Kane, environmental supervisor for the Health Department, said the agency does not have ranges for good or bad scores but instead looks at the overall score, adding that readers need to look at the types of violations.
He said a couple of priority violations are more concerning than several core violations.
In certain cases, the Health Department returns to a food establishment to reinspect, allowing time for the facility to correct issues. According to the Health Department, reinspection is not solely based on the score an establishment gets; it’s determined by the type of violation. Priority and priority foundation violations need to be corrected within a certain amount of time, and priority violations typically are corrected on the day of the inspection before the inspector leaves.
Kane said the department rarely closes a food establishment, and most temporary closures involve a power outage, fire or sewage backup.

The inspection scores for the week of Nov. 16 are listed below. They are all routine inspections unless otherwise noted.
■ 7 Brew, 1275 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold, was inspected on Nov. 18. No score given due to low priority.
■ Arbor View Nursing and Rehab Center, 6400 Cedars Court, Cedar Hill, scored 89 on Nov. 19. Violations: dishes need to be rewashed to remove debris; soiled filter on condenser unit; drain line of ware washing machine draining into clogged grease catcher drain; and standing water in kitchen under dishwasher.
■ Casey’s, 10534 Hwy. 21, Hillsboro, scored 98 on Nov. 19. Violations: ice buildup in walk-in freezer/water dripping from walk-in cooler evaporator pipe; and dumpster lids open.
■ Central Tap, 10 Main St., Festus, was inspected Nov. 20. No score given due to low priority.
■ Crumbl, 840 Arnold Commons, Arnold, scored 88 on Nov. 17. Violations: trays of butter sitting out at room temperature; back door propped open; scoop handle in baking soda; container lid in disrepair; and soiled storage container top, pan, cooler rack, reach-in cooler; and scoop containers.
■ Davidson Family Life Center, 2012 Missouri State Road, Arnold, scored 99 on Nov. 18. Violation: no covered trash can in restroom.
■ De Soto Head Start, 3225 Baisch Drive, De Soto, scored 100 on Nov. 18.
■ Dollar General, 8660 Commercial Blvd., Pevely, was inspected Nov. 17. No score given due to low priority.

■ First Christian Church of Hematite, 3711 Hwy. P, Hematite, scored 88. Violations: raw eggs stored above beverages; and low-splash bleach being used.

■ Kasabi Hibachi, Sushi and Ramen, 343 N. Creek Drive, Festus, was reinspected on Nov. 20. No score given.
■ La Pachanga, 1185 Scenic Plaza Drive Suite 105, Herculaneum, was reinspected Nov. 18. No score given.
■ LaChance Winery, 6035 Second St., Kimmswick, scored 80 on Nov. 21. Violations: no thermometer in mini fridge; unlabeled bulk containers; windows open with no screens; single-serve cup being used as scoop for sugar; boxes of single-serve cups stored on floor; torn door gaskets; one hand sink does not reach proper temperature; and damaged coving.
■ Las Brisas Mexican Restaurant, 8620 Dunklin Drive, Pevely, scored 60 on Nov. 18 and was reinspected Nov. 19.
