Pet Spot: Big boy Cane knows when anyone in the household is eating

Cane, a 1-year-old mastiff-mix puppy, already weighs 120 pounds, said owner Jodie Fuhrmann of Barnhart.

Jodie Fuhrmann said she and her husband, Rob, have a 1-year-old mastiff-mix puppy named Cane, and you can’t open food in their Barnhart house without the huge dog tracking you down.

Cane already weighs 120 pounds, she said.

Fuhrmann said Cane “is always listening for food wrappers.”

“He’s always looking for handouts,” she said. “Any little crinkle, he’s right behind you.”

Cane is a gentle giant, Jodie added.

“He’s really sweet. He’s a puppy, so he still likes to play a lot – with ropes, balls. He’s learning to play fetch. He’ll go get it but won’t bring it back.”

Cane gets along with the family’s other two pets.

“We have two other dogs who are older,” Jodie said. “We have another mastiff he follows around a lot. Odie is like a grumpy older brother. The other one is Henry, a boxer. Cane and Henry play together.”

Jodie said Cane is lovable.

“He’s our big baby,” she said. “He follows us everywhere and likes to cuddle.”
