Jose Wells, a 13-year-old miniature donkey, is an important part of the Ferguson household in Barnhart.
“When we got him, we turned him into one of our family members,” Laura Ferguson said. “His name was Jose when we got him. Wells is a family name. We consider him one of the family.”
Jose has many people-like skills and traits, Ferguson said.
“He can open the sliding-glass door,” she said. “He slides it open and comes into the kitchen.”
Ferguson said Jose Wells can be moody.
“He holds a grudge,” she said. “If he gets mad at me, he won’t even look at me.”
Jose Wells seems to always get along with the family’s dogs, though.
“He is our only donkey,” Ferguson said. “We have two dogs. One of the dogs, Hannah, is his best friend. They chase each other.”
