Brandi Buffington of Eureka said Memphis, her 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, is great friends with her cats.

“We have three cats that insist on snuggling with him,” Buffington said.

Memphis also is friends with another dog who lives in the house.

“My parents live with us and have a miniature dachshund, Frankie. He’s 17. Memphis gets along with all of them,” Buffington said.

She said she adopted Memphis, even though he had some health problems.

“When we got him as a puppy, he was severely malnourished, riddled with parasites and had a bald patch on his rump,” she said. “He was the runt of the litter and had a lot of health problems due to a poor breeder.’

Memphis also has inflammatory bowel disease, tooth problems caused by an overbite, spina bifida, allergies, a toe amputation and, possibly, a knee injury, Buffington said.

“We’ve been able to manage it all with medication,” Buffington said. “For the most part, he’s doing pretty well.”

She said Memphis is lovable.

“Memphis is our baby,” Buffington said. “He’s such a sweet boy.”
