Kayla Jemtrud of Crystal City said much of life frightens her dog, Mayken, an 8-year-old Labrador-Australian shepherd mix.
“He’s scared of noises, like from storms and fireworks, all of it,” Jemtrud said. “He doesn’t like other dogs. He’s scared of them. He barks at anyone going by. Bicycles and motorcycles – he’s terrified. He has severe anxiety.”
Yet, Mayken looks forward to some activities, she said.
“He enjoys going for walks,” she said. “He likes car rides. He likes to hang his head out the window.”
He also enjoys lounging around.
“He’s a lazy dog,” Jemtrud said.
Mayken is an important part of the family, she added.
“He’s really good with our 2-year-old daughter.”
