DeAnna Dulle of Hillsboro submitted this photo of Checkers, her 32-year-old quarter horse.
“I took the picture in the spring of 2025,” Dulle said. “This is the oldest horse I’ve had. I’ve had quite a few horses. I live on 12 acres in Hillsboro.”
A reason Checkers has lived so long may be his laid-back demeanor, she said.
“He’s easy-going,” she said. “He always takes everything in stride.”
Checkers continue his job as a barrel-racing horse, Dulle said.
“I rode him as a barrel horse,” she said. “He’s my old barrel horse and now my 5-year-old niece, Edie, competes on him. So, now he’s teaching Edie.”
