Laura Griffith Winkler of Barnhart said her family’s Old English sheepdog, the late Henry, was so tall that when her son, Cody, was a toddler he could sit up underneath the pet, as can be seen in this photo from the late 1980s.
“It was taken at the family farm south of Festus,” Winkler said. “Henry was just a lovable, big bear. He loved Cody. The two of them would romp around the yard. Wherever the baby was, he was.”
Cody was 18 months when the photo was taken and now is 31 years old. Henry, who was about 8 in the photo, lived to the age of 15, Winkler said.
“Sheepdogs are the greatest dogs,” she said.
