Sal Nigro's cat, Marley Joy

Sal Nigro of Festus says his cat, Marley Joy, is a great companion during the pandemic.

Sal Nigro of Festus said his cat, Marley Joy, has been a bright spot for him during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nigro said Marley Joy is about 2, but he doesn’t know her breed.

He said the cat provides him with both comfort and entertainment.

“She’s a little human,” Nigro said. “She’s very playful. She’s protective of me. She’s shy around other people. She’ll meow at me to get on the couch so she can cuddle up. She’s got tons of personality.”

Nigro said he is relatively new to the area and does not know many people, so Marley Joy has been a great companion during a lonely time.

“I’m originally from the New Jersey and New York area,” Nigro said. “My family’s back East. With the COVID, you couldn’t travel. I don’t know a lot of people, so she’s like my little best friend.

“Through this whole pandemic, she’s been a lifesaver.”
