Tom and Paulette Zacher of Fenton adopted two feral cats from the wild that are now part of their family.
“They’re doing great,” Paulette said.
For a couple of years, the cats, which the Zachers named Puppet and Lucy, would keep returning to their yard as the Zachers would feed them. So, the Zachers sought and received permission from county government authorities to keep the cats, Paulette said.
They believe the cats are domestic shorthairs, around 7 and 6 years old, and may be mother and daughter.
“They are inside cats now,” Paulette said. “They’re still a little skittish, but they’re fine with us. I’ve got them spoiled.”
Paulette said Puppet and Lucy more or less get along with the Zachers’ other cat, a male Siamese named Cheyenne.
“Lucy and Cheyenne are fine together,” Paulette said. “Puppet tries to eat with Cheyenne and he hisses at her and gets up.”
She said she encourages people to consider feral cats as pets.
“I would like people to give them a chance and adopt them,” she said. “We’re proof anybody can tame a feral cat.”
