Marissa Ashabranner of De Soto said her dogs, Bear and Lily, have a hot-and-cold relationship. Bear is a 10-year-old husky, and Lily is a 7-year-old boxer-beagle mix.
“It’s a love-hate relationship,” Ashabranner said. “They get along like an old, married couple. In the winter, they’ll cuddle up. Sometimes, she’ll get irritated and growl at him. He couldn’t care less.”
Ashabranner has owned the dogs for most of their lives.
“We got Bear when he was 2 and Lily when she was 6 weeks old,” she said.
They have distinctly different personalities, Ashabranner said.
“Lily is a lover,” Ashabranner said. “She is always by your side. She constantly has to be petted. Bear couldn’t care less if you pet him. He’s kind of aloof.”
Bear and Lily are mainstays of the household.
“We love them,” Ashabranner said. “They’re part of the family. I wouldn’t trade them in for anything.”
