With Christmas right around the corner, we always need more time to get everything ready for the special holiday. So, any chance we get to save a little time in the kitchen helps, allowing us those extra few hours to enjoy the holiday and spend time with friends and family.
This recipe is made in a slow cooker, giving you a few hours to finish some Christmas shopping or decorating or to wrap some gifts. It’s a different twist on pizza but is full of that same great taste everyone loves.
The recipe makes a generous amount and it’s so easy to prepare. Just add a salad on the side and your favorite beverage and you’ll have a hearty meal sure to please the family!
SLOW COOKER PIZZA
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 1/2 pounds of ground turkey or ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onions
1 (28-ounce) jar of spaghetti sauce
1 (4 1/2-ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1 clove garlic, minced
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, according to your taste preference
1 (12-ounce) package wide egg noodles, slightly undercooked
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 small can black olives, sliced
12 thin slices of pepperoni
In a large skillet, cook turkey or beef and onions in olive oil until no longer pink. Drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce, mushrooms, minced garlic and Italian seasoning.
Meanwhile cook egg noodles until slightly undercooked. Spray a 6-quart slow-cooker with cooking spray and spread one-quarter of meat sauce in bottom of slow-cooker.
Cover meat sauce with one-third of noodles and top with one-third of cheeses. Repeat layers twice more.
On top layer sprinkle with sliced olives. Place slices of pepperoni over all.
Cover and cook on low for 2-1/2 to 3 hours. Do not overcook. Makes 8 servings.
