As we say goodbye to 2022 and enter 2023, many of will host New Year’s Eve parties to ring in the New Year. Food plays a major role in any successful party and can determine if guests have a memorable time or not.
After heavy holiday dinners, snacks and appetizers, along with some tasty beverages, are popular choices for young and old alike. The following two recipes may offer you something new to serve at your party, and both are easy to make and won’t break your budget.
The first is Slow Cooker Hot Crab Dip, and the second is Salsa Strips, a different twist on nachos. Both dishes are sure to please, providing a great way to begin 2023. Happy New Year!
SLOW COOKER HOT CRAB DIP
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
4 green onions, thinly sliced (1/4-cup)
1/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 (6-ounce) can crabmeat, drained, cartilage removed and flaked
1/3 cup sliced almonds, toasted
Assorted crackers or raw vegetables, if desired
Spray inside of a 1-to-2 1/2-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Mix all ingredients except crabmeat, almonds and crackers in a small bowl until well blended. Stir in crabmeat.
Spoon mixture into slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat setting for between 1 hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Sprinkle with almonds. Serve warm with crackers. Dip will hold up to 3 hours. Makes 20 two-tablespoon servings.
SALSA STRIPS
1 (8-ounce) tube refrigerated crescent rolls
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3/4 cup salsa
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese
Minced fresh or dried cilantro leaves
Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into four rectangles. Place on greased baking sheets. Spread mustard and salsa on each rectangle.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese; bake 5-8 minutes longer or until golden brown.
Cool for 10 minutes. Cut each into four strips; sprinkle with cilantro leaves. Makes 16 appetizers.
