Reese's Ravioli Snacks

If you're looking for a quick and easy dessert or sweet snack to make, Leader food columnist Kathleen Brotherton suggests trying this recipe for Reese's Ravioli Snacks.

With the sunny days of spring and summer upon us, we find ourselves looking for recipes that are quick and easy so we’re finally able to go outside and enjoy the warm weather. After a long winter mostly cooped up inside, we finally see an end to our “cabin fever” days.

Even though warm weather has arrived and you don’t want to turn on the oven to bake a dessert, you’d still like to surprise your family with a sweet snack once in a while. So, the following recipe for Reese’s Ravioli Snacks is a good alternative to baking brownies or cookies.

Not only is it easy to make, but this recipe is as tasty as something you spend hours making in a hot kitchen. And, I like them because they’re “portable” and you can take them to picnics or give them to your children or grandchildren to take as a snack when they play outside.

The recipe calls for wonton wrappers, so if you end up with leftovers, I suggest you use those up by making another sweet snack. Just drop the wontons into hot fat (one or two at a time) to lightly brown; then drain them on paper towels and sprinkle with a cinnamon-sugar mixture for a sweet, crispy treat. Either of these treats is great for springtime snacks!

REESE’S RAVIOLI SNACKS

1 (12-pack) Reese’s Peanut Butter cups

1/2 package of wonton wrappers

1 egg (for egg wash)

Oil for frying

Powdered Sugar (for dusting)

Heat cooking oil (3-inches deep) in a deep pan.

Cut each Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in half. Put each half inside center of a wonton. Brush egg wash around all four sides of wonton. Fold wonton in half diagonally over peanut butter cup, sealing edges of wonton. The egg-wash helps seal the wontons tightly so none of the peanut butter cup oozes out.

Fry in batches of 2 or 3 at a time until both sides are crispy and lightly browned. Drain and cool a few minutes and dust with powdered sugar. Serve immediately. They’re good once they’ve cooled, too.
