Probably two of America’s favorite sweet snacks are chocolate chip cookies and brownies. Not only do chocolate lovers love these treats, but anyone with a sweet tooth can appreciate the rich flavor and how easy both desserts are to make. Often these are the first items girls and boys learn to make in the kitchen.
Brownies have evolved a lot since they were first introduced. Originally, brownies were primarily chewy, chocolate cookie-cake with perhaps a few chopped nuts. Over the years, brownies have been transformed to become quite an elegant dessert, especially with caramel topping and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
However, if you crave chocolate with marshmallows, this Mississippi Mud Brownie recipe is one that generates requests to make again and again. Serve these in a bowl, covered with vanilla ice cream and they taste just like a treat found at your nearest ice cream shop.
MISSISSIPPI MUD BROWNIES
1 package family-size fudge brownie mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup cooking oil
1 (7-ounce) jar of marshmallow creme
1 container (12-ounces) milk chocolate frosting, melted
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13-inch-by-9-inch-by-2-inch baking pan.
Combine brownie mix, eggs, water and oil in large bowl. Stir with spoon until well blended, about 3 minutes. Spread in pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 28 minutes or until set.
Place spoonsful of marshmallow creme evenly over surface of brownies as soon as you take it from the oven, to allow the creme to soften before spreading and covering the top of brownies. Pour melted chocolate frosting over marshmallow layer and swirl with a knife to marble. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
