The Hillsboro R-3 Board of Education recently recognized the Hillsboro High School counseling staff for winning the Gysbers Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program Award from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Amber Ernst, assistant director at DESE, presented the award to the counselors, including Tish Martin-Naeger, Laura Asinger, Brandon Holthausen and Sarah Dix, at the school board’s Oct. 28 meeting. The award is given to recognize a commitment to implement a comprehensive school counseling program focusing on the academic, career and social-emotional development of all students, according to information from the school district.

“This is the first time for (Hillsboro R-3) to receive this award,” Hillsboro Superintendent Jon Isaacson said. “We’re super proud of our school counselors in our district. To be recognized at the state level is pretty impressive.”

State Rep. Mike McGirl (R-Potosi) also attended the board meeting and presented the counseling staff with a House of Representatives proclamation recognizing the achievement.
