Runners take off at the first Fox 5K, held in October 2015 in Arnold

Runners take off at the first Fox 5K, held last October at Arnold City Park. The second annual run and walk will again be held at the park, on Sunday, Oct. 23.

There’s still time to take part in the second annual Fox 5K and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk, set for Sunday, Oct. 23, at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road, off Jeffco Boulevard near the Meramec River.

The 5K will start at 9 a.m., and the Fun Run/Walk at 10 a.m. Entry is $20 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-mile.

A $100 cash prize and a trophy will be awarded to the overall male and overall female winner in the 5K, and the top three finishers in several age categories will receive a medal. In addition, participants will receive free shirts, goodie bags and water.

The event is a fundraiser for the C-6 Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funds educational and welfare grants to benefit students throughout the Fox C-6 School District. Organizers are still seeking runners, walkers and sponsors.

Already, several local businesses and residents have signed on as sponsors. The two major sponsors are the Arnold Tourism Commission, which will donate up to $6,000 to cover expenses for the event, and Mercy Hospital Jefferson, which has donated $1,500 to the event, which is designed not only to provide funding for the foundation but also to promote health and wellness.

Other sponsors include the late Wes Griffith and his wife, Anna; the Glore Foundation; the Jeremy Mast State Farm agency; DiscountCoffee.com; Missouri Baptist University; the Boggs family; St. Louis Pre-Sort; Granite Busters; Home Service Oil’s Express Mart; First Bank; the Beck Foundation; Vernon and Glenda Sullivan; Leader Publications and KJFF.

In addition to the run and walk, the event will include raffles, music and entertainment. Noodles and Co. will give out samples of macaroni and cheese and is providing a prize to be awarded or raffled. Texas Roadhouse will have its mascot, Andy the Armadillo, there and will hand out goodies and provide a prize. A snow cone truck will sell treats.

The Arnold Police Department plans to have an officer and a police dog there; the Rock Community Fire Protection District is scheduled to have a firetruck and firefighters on hand; and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is expected to participate.

The course is flat, fast and scenic, winding through the park and along the Meramec River. Fleet Feet St. Louis will provide chip timing and is handling online registration.
