Like much of the country, Fox School District students and staff have participated in the ALS ice bucket challenge, raising money for the fight against the disease.
Seckman Middle School, for example, raised $966.25 for the cause late last month.
“The money will go directly to a local family affected by ALS and to the RASCALS Foundation,” said Sam Rayburn, the Fox School District’s communications coordinator, in a written statement.
He said the family that will receive some of the money has two students in the district – one at Seckman Elementary School and one at Seckman High School.
After Seckman Middle students and staff held a week of fundraising, students got to dump buckets of ice water on staff members.
Rayburn said 29 staff members participated, including principal Tammy Cardona and assistant principal Kolin Peterson.
Several other Fox district schools recently participated in the ice bucket challenge, including Antonia, Guffey and Lone Dell elementary schools and Seckman High School, Rayburn said.
“As part of the challenge, these schools have challenged others in the district and more buildings are expected to participate, including the Fox C-6 Central Office,” Rayburn said.
For the Antonia Elementary ice bucket challenge, firefighters from the Antonia Fire Protection District dumped ice into a tanker truck and then doused teachers and staff members.
The school raised $864.43 for the cause.
