Five free community dinners will be held around the county on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27. Those dinners will be held in De Soto, Pevely, High Ridge, Arnold and Imperial. They are for people in need or for those who would be alone for the holiday.
The First Baptist Church of De Soto will host its annual Thanksgiving dinner from 12-2 p.m. at the church, 2000 Grace Way. Participants may eat a traditional Thanksgiving at the church, or delivery is available to homes within the De Soto city limits. If you would like delivery to your home, call the church office before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The phone number is 636-586-2500.
Another free dinner will be held at the Jefferson County Rescue Mission, 8943 Commercial Blvd., in Pevely from 12:30-2 p.m. It is open to people in the Pevely, Herculaneum, Crystal City and Festus areas.
The mission will serve turkey, dressing, green beans and pumpkin pie. The Rescue Mission purchases some of the food for the dinner, but the rest is donated by area businesses. Rescue Mission volunteers also deliver a complete home-cooked Thanksgiving Day dinner to homebound individuals served by the Quad-Cities Senior Center in Crystal City. The High Ridge Rotary will serve its annual free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the High Ridge Fire Protection District Station 1, 2824 High Ridge Blvd., in High Ridge. In Arnold, a free community Thanksgiving dinner will be offered from noon to 2 p.m. at the KFC restaurant, 1436 Jeffco Blvd. KFC manager Doug Stark and his family sponsor the dinner, which will include turkey and all the traditional Thanksgiving fare. In addition, deliveries are available to the homebound through the Jefferson County Salvation Army. The Starks are accepting donations of food and cash for the dinner. Also, anyone who wants to volunteer is welcome.

The Windsor Baptist Church, 6701 Hwy. 61-67, in Imperial also will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Transportation to the church and meal deliveries also are available. To schedule transportation or a delivery, call 636-464-9008.
