Andrew Schrum

Crystal City Police posted a picture on its Facebook page of Andrew Schrum from surveillance video at a Mobile on the Run gas station near the Twin City Walmart, where he allegedly robbed the First Community Credit Union.

A 30-year-old Rolla man has been charged for allegedly robbing the First Community Credit Union inside the Twin City Walmart. He was arrested in Colorado two days after the reported robbery but had not been extradited to Jefferson County as of today, Oct. 21, authorities reported.

On Oct. 14, Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Ryan Andrew Schrum, who also has lived in Crystal City and De Soto, with first-degree robbery, a class A felony that carries a penalty of 10 to 30 years or life in prison, court documents show.

Schrum entered the credit union that is near the front of the Walmart store, 650 S. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City at about 11:55 a.m. Oct. 12. He handed the teller a handwritten note that allegedly demanded she give him “all the money” and said he had a gun and would shoot anyone who tried to stop him, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

Crystal City Police Capt. Mike Pruneau said Schrum never displayed a weapon during the reported robbery and no injuries were reported.

The teller gave Schrum $3,290, and he then left the credit union and store. He was seen in surveillance video wearing a black Nike hat, blue medical mask, red hooded jacket, white undershirt, black shorts and black tennis shoes with white soles, the report said.

He also had long hair protruding from the back of the hat and a full beard that could be seen protruding from the mask, according to the report.

Schrum allegedly was seen in surveillance video throwing the mask, hat and jacket into trash cans in the store's parking lot. Investigators recovered each of the discarded items, the probable-cause statement said.

Pruneau said Festus Police officers recognized Schrum from surveillance video after having previous encounters with him.

Investigators learned Schrum boarded an Amtrak train to travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., following the alleged robbery, the report said.

Pruneau said FBI agents arrested Schrum on Oct. 14 when he exited the train.

“The FBI office in Colorado Springs was contacted by the FBI office in St. Louis and made an arrest,” Pruneau said. “(Schrum) gave a confession and admitted to committing the robbery.”
