The Jefferson County Health Department announced six new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus in the county this evening (April 4), bringing the total to 69 cases. The Health Department also announced one person diagnosed with the virus had recovered.
“Our Public Health Preparedness team has started contact investigations and notifications regarding the (new) cases,” the Health Department reported. “Those identified as coming into contact with the positive case will be notified individually.”
According to a Health Department social media post today, the county has had 34 male cases and 35 female cases. The cases include two people 10 or younger, six people in their 20s, nine people in their 30s, 10 people in their 40s, 19 people in their 50s, 15 people in their 60s, four people in their 70s and four people in their 80s.
The Health Department did not include in today’s social media post information about the ZIP codes where positive cases have occurred. However, in the agency’s post on Friday (April 4), the ZIP codes included 63010 (Arnold), 63012 (Barnhart), 63016 (Cedar Hill), 63019 (Crystal City), 62020 (De Soto), 63026 (Fenton), 63028 (Festus), 63049 (High Ridge), 63050 (Hillsboro), 63051 (House Springs), 63052 (Imperial), 63069 (Pacific) and 63070 (Pevely).
On Thursday (April 2), the Health Department announced the county’s first death related to the coronavirus. The resident was a female in her 80s, who had been hospitalized, the Health Department reported.
Vollmar said everyone around the county needs to take precautions to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
“Community spread is present in our community, and, unfortunately, we will continue to see this virus spread and case counts increase,” she said. “It is important residents follow guidelines and regulations in place from government agencies across the nation, as well as in Jefferson County.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends everyone wear a cloth face mask while in a public setting, according to its website.
On Friday, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson issued a statewide stay-at-home order that takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
The first three confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Jefferson County were announced March 23, and there have been new cases everyday since then.
As of today, Missouri had 2,291 positive cases and 24 deaths from the coronavirus, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The CDC reported that the U.S. had 277,205 positive cases and a total of 6,593 deaths as of today.
According to the World Health Organization and CDC numbers, the U.S. now leads the world in positive cases.
