2019 Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival

People filled the streets of Kimmswick in October 2019 during the annual Apple Butter Festival, which typically attracts 100,000 or more visitors to the town.

Kimmswick has called off its annual Apple Butter Festival this year, city officials announced today (Aug. 5).

“The Kimmswick mayor and Board of Aldermen along with the festival committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Kimmswick Annual Apple Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the city reported.

The festival was scheduled for Oct. 26 through Oct. 27.

Typically, the Apple Butter Festival draws more than 100,000 to the small town over the two-day event.

Kimmswick previously canceled its annual Strawberry Festival, which had been scheduled for June 6-June 7, because of concerns about the spread of COVID-19.

The two festivals typically account for 80 percent of the town’s revenue, Ward 1 Alderwoman and festival director Connie Schmitt said when the Strawberry Festival was canceled.
