The show must go on.
Following that famous theater motto, members of Fox High School’s Theatre Troupe have recorded a performance from their homes, and people may watch the play for one week starting today, May 1.
To view the play, called “10 Ways To Survive Life In a Quarantine,” go to the troupe’s webpage at foxhs.fox.k12.mo.us/clubs__activities/theatre_troupe.
The troupe also will provide a link to the performance from its Twitter page, @foxhstheatre.
The play, written by Don Zolidis, takes a comedic look at ways people can keep themselves entertained while observing stay-at-home orders, said Fox High teacher Sam Meyer, who directed the play.
He said the performance lasts about an hour.
It is the Fox High Theatre Troupe’s first digital performance, which was recorded on Zoom, a web-based meeting app, Meyer said.
He said students provided their own costumes and props from what they had at their homes and used their own devices to record the performance.
“All in all, (the students) did an excellent job with very little rehearsal time,” Meyer said. “The play is very presentational in style, with two hosts directly addressing viewers, and 20 other characters all showing us 10 ways to cope with the boredom of staying home and social distancing. Honestly, it’s pretty funny.”
The troupe had planned to perform “Frozen Jr.” this spring, but that production was canceled when school buildings were closed in March because of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Cast members for the digital performance of “10 Ways to Survive Life in a Quarantine” include seniors Emmitt Rodgers, Krista Waldron, James Woolston and Regan Jean; junior Alliyah Ray; sophomores Isa Rogers, Faith Van Wyk, Lydia Bennett, Delany Roehrs, Killian Frese, Lauren Werner, Alyx Fischer and Sara Bass; freshmen Zoe Simonds and Emma Klein, along with Meyer and fellow district teachers Lyndal Willis and Holland Doherty.
Meyer said the link can not be shared on any other internet or social media platforms.
Along with the link to watch the performance, the Theatre Troupe’s web page also has a link to make donations to the group.
