Both the Fox C-6 and Windsor C-1 school districts have students and staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19
In the Fox district, eight students and six staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 since Aug. 10.
The Windsor district has had one staff member and five students test positive for the virus since the start of classes on Aug. 24.
Fox
At Fox, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 has to be isolated for 10 days before returning to school, said JP Prezzavento, the district’s communications and instructional technology coordinator.
In addition to the students and staff members who have tested positive for the virus, Fox has 48 other students and 15 other staff members are in quarantine because of possible exposure to the virus. Typically, a quarantine period for someone believed to have been exposed to COVID-19 lasts 14 days.
“We have processes and procedures that we have set in place for social distancing and contact tracing that are based on guidance from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Jefferson County Health Department,” Prezzavento said. “We feel that these procedures are helping us to limit the transmission of COVID-19 in Fox C-6.”
Fox’s school year began Aug. 27 with about 80 percent of its 11,163 students enrolled in a hybrid schedule. About half of those students attend class in person on Mondays and Tuesdays and the other half on Thursdays and Fridays. The district uses Wednesday as an all virtual learning day for students and teachers.
About 20 percent of the student population is enrolled in the district’s Virtual Academy, which means they do all their learning online at home.
Windsor
Since one of the Windsor students who tested positive for COVID-19 is a soccer player, about 30 soccer players and coaches are quarantined for 14 days as a precaution, Superintendent Joel Holland said today (Sept. 3).
He said the district was notified of the soccer’s player’s positive test Aug. 29, but does not know the exact day the period of isolation began.
“The Health Department keeps track of that,” Holland said. “We quarantined pretty much the whole team, which is about 30.”
He said the district has taken all precautions health officials call for to try to limit the spread of the disease.
St. Pius X High School in Crystal City and the Northwest R-1, Festus R-6 and Rockwood school districts also have reported positive cases.
