The last day of school usually comes with some smiles, some tears, some hugs... but in this most different of school years, the last day comes with social distancing, face masks and books and bags passed through car windows. The scene Wednesday (May 27) at Festus Intermediate School and Festus High School was no different. Teachers and students got to say long-delayed goodbyes and wishes for a good summer, turned in books, band and choir uniforms and chromebook computers and, in turn, were given bags of personal belongings cleaned out from a locker or desk. A system was set up with walkie-talkies that allowed staff members to collect belongings and deliver them to waiting vehicles. Some cars even had pets eager to meet the teachers.
