A Festus couple plans to open a residential assisted living and adult day care facility called Senior Care Solutions at 101 Collins Ave. in Festus next month.
Jannah Oppermann, 44, and her husband, Gregory Budt, 45, have been refurbishing a 7,000-square-foot building at the site that formerly housed a children’s daycare, and they hope to be ready to open in early January.

Oppermann said she and her husband own the building.
She also said Senior Care Solutions will offer assisted living and adult day respite care in a more intimate setting than at other facilities.
“The biggest thing to note is the small-home design,” she said. “The motto we will use is ‘Smaller is safer, and smaller is better.’”
The assisted living portion of the business will be staffed 24 hours a day and is intended to offer a comfortable atmosphere, Oppermann said.
“We only have four bedrooms, so we can accommodate up to eight elders,” she said. “The assisted-living floor will look and feel like your own home, rather than an institution or facility. So, we will offer smaller staffing-to-patient ratios and improved patient-centered care. We will have as low as a one-to-four ratio, for one staff member for four elders. That’s through the whole home.”
The adult day care portion of the business also will have a high staff-to-client ratio.
“The adult day care on the lower level will be a certified memory-care unit,” Oppermann said. “We will say it will accommodate 12, for now, and the number may go above that in the future.”
The adult day care will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Oppermann, an occupational therapist, will run the facility. She has a clinical doctorate degree in occupational therapy from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
“I have worked in long-term care as an occupational therapist for 20 years and have always been passionate about caring for others and promoting quality of life during the aging process,” she said.
