Dave Smith, who owns the Fully Involved Power Washing Inc. based in Festus, has volunteered to power wash playgrounds at West City Park and Jokerst Memorial Park in Festus. He is providing the service for free.
West City Park, which is along Old Hwy. A, is the city’s largest park and has several playgrounds. Jokerst Park, 525 S. Mill St., also has a popular playground, said Larry Crites, the Festus parks superintendent.
“The city greatly appreciates this,” Crites said Wednesday morning (March 25) while watching Smith power wash the playground next to the West City Park ballfields.
Smith, a Festus resident, said he knows how valuable the playgrounds are to families because his family regularly visits them.
“I have small children of my own,” he said. “They love to come here (to West City Park) to play.
“We’re going to do all of the playground equipment in West City Park and at Jokerst. We might do others. As of right now, we’re just doing Festus.”
He said his company follows government guidelines in its cleaning.
“With all that’s going on with COVID-19, I wanted to do this for the community’s safety,” Smith said. “All the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) sanitation and disinfectant regulations, we’re in accordance with CDC regulations.”
