An Imo’s Pizza is set to open Wednesday (April 21) at 1185 Scenic Drive in Herculaneum, where a Little Caesars used to operate.

The new Imo’s is next door to a La Pachanga Mexican restaurant.

The Herculaneum Board of Aldermen approved a business license for the Imo’s on April 5, and the restaurant passed the city occupancy inspection today (April 20).

Mark Puricelli, who has owned the Imo’s in Festus for 26 years, is the owner of the new Herculaneum location.

He said the location is a good one, offering a lot of traffic and easy access from I-55.

“We knew we had to open another store between Festus and the (Arnold-area location on The West Outer Road),” said Puricelli, who lives in south St. Louis County.

The Imo’s in Festus employs about 40 people, including in-store staff, managers and drivers. Puricelli said he’d like to hire between 15 and 20 people for the Herculaneum location.

Unlike the Festus Imo’s, the new one in Herculaneum won’t have a dining room. It will offer pick-up orders and delivery only. Curb-side pickup will be available for those who don’t want to go inside.

There’s a pick-up window at the Festus Imo’s, and Puricelli said one will be added to the Herculaneum location.

Puricelli said online ordering has been up 55 percent at all Imo’s over the past year.

“The trend was upward before COVID,” he added.

Both restaurants have the same menu – pizza, salads, appetizers, sandwiches and more.

The Herculaneum Imo’s will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

“We’ll start with a soft opening because we have a lot of new people, and I don’t want to overwhelm them and not give great service,” Puricelli said. “We’re excited to get this open. A lot of people have walked up and asked if we were open.”
